A delightful read! Thanks for the clear and detailed workshop descriptions, the logistics of travel and arrangements for Naga Mas left me with zero time to attend these sessions. So I thanks for guidance on all these offerings. Jon Keliehor

Nice blog, Simon. The year-long residency of Mas Joko Susilo in Glasgow (2001-2002) were happy days indeed! What a shame that my voice was not clear on one side of the screen. But a pleasure always to do some wayang with you!

Ah yes, I forgot to demonstrate that bit, sorry. The 'Monitor' object in Logic needs to be connected to the software instrument you are using. I've done this by making a cable which goes to a different layer in the Environment, which is what you can see coming out of the Monitor object. To do this, alt-click on the output triangle of the Monitor object; this gives you a local menu which lets you pick the instrument you want to send to.

Wow - this is incredibly helpful. Thanks. One question though - I have my environment window and Max/MSP set up such that I can control the motion of the fader in the environment window from max/msp. The fader is set to the midi channel and controller value that i want to tweak, and the fader is connected to a monitor, where i am seeing the correct midi information... however, the desired knob is not being tweaked. after watching your video again, i see that there is a cable coming out of the monitor that seems to have some connection (just a little dot). where is that going? i haven't made such a connection, and I think that's why mine might not be working.

Or, you could say (ca.45") or (about 45"). I used parenthesis more clearly mark the alternatives. I'd agree that ~45", while conceptually sound, has a greater chance of requiring verbal explanation, thus reducing rehearsal time through unnecessary talking

Maybe it's a Scottish thing, but the way you use the 'tilde' wouldn't be clear to most musicians over here. We'd be guessing at what you mean, as opposed to something like 'ca.', so maybe it's for the best! ;)
